Position Summary

Fourgrounds Coffee is more than a coffee shop. We are building a gathering place for our community and a café known for great hospitality, quality, and a strong team.

The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in the day-to-day operation of Fourgrounds Coffee, with a focus on café leadership, team development, service standards, and consistent execution.

This is a hands-on management position. The AGM works regularly on the café floor, supports and develops Shift Leads and baristas, and takes ownership of key operational responsibilities. The AGM should understand every part of café operations and be prepared to step in wherever needed.

The AGM provides management oversight and support while continuing to develop Shift Leads' ability to independently lead assigned shifts. In the General Manager's absence, the AGM serves as the primary café leader.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform all Barista and Shift Lead responsibilities at a high level.

  • Support the General Manager in the daily operation of Fourgrounds Coffee.

  • Serve as manager on duty during assigned shifts and as the primary café leader when the General Manager is unavailable.

  • Provide consistent leadership and direction to Shift Leads and baristas.

  • Coach, train, and support employees while reinforcing Fourgrounds standards and expectations.

  • Help develop Shift Leads and strengthen their ability to independently lead effective shifts.

  • Monitor service, staffing, cleanliness, product quality, and the overall guest experience.

  • Lead by example and step onto bar, register, support, or another position when business levels require additional help.

  • Respond to guest concerns and resolve issues professionally and appropriately.

  • Help manage unexpected call-offs, staffing gaps, and changes in daily business needs.

  • Support employee onboarding, training, and ongoing development.

  • Address employee concerns and performance issues in partnership with the General Manager.

  • Help maintain a positive, respectful, and accountable work environment.

  • Ensure beverage recipes, food safety standards, sanitation requirements, service expectations, and company procedures are followed consistently.

  • Help oversee opening and closing procedures and ensure operational standards are met.

  • Support inventory management, ordering, receiving, stocking, parts, product rotation, and product availability.

  • Monitor waste and help identify opportunities to control costs and improve café operations.

  • Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and labor management.

  • Maintain familiarity with POS, scheduling, inventory, and other café systems.

  • Support café events, special programming, and community activities.

  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, service, training, and team effectiveness.

  • Help maintain and update café procedures, training materials, and operational systems.

  • Communicate employee concerns, guest feedback, operational issues, and recurring patterns to the General Manager.

  • Take ownership of assigned operational and administrative responsibilities and follow through consistently.

  • Contribute ideas and feedback as Fourgrounds continues to grow and refine its operations.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous leadership experience in coffee, food service, retail, hospitality, or a similar customer-facing environment.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Schedule Requirements

  • This is a part-time position averaging approximately 35-39 hours per week.

  • Regular weekend availability is required.

  • Availability to work Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays may be required based on business needs.

  • Early morning, evening, holiday, and special event availability may be required.

  • Schedule flexibility is required to support call-offs, staffing needs, and periods of increased business.

  • The AGM may serve as the primary café manager when the General Manager is unavailable.

The AGM's schedule will include a combination of café floor leadership and time dedicated to training, inventory, administrative responsibilities, projects, and other management priorities.

When the café needs additional support, the AGM is expected to step in and work alongside the team. When the floor is running effectively, management time should be used to complete operational priorities, coach and develop employees, and support the continued development of the café.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous café or coffee industry experience.

  • Previous supervisory or management experience.

  • Experience training, coaching, and developing employees.

  • Experience with scheduling, inventory management, ordering, labor management, or other café operations.

  • Experience operating a POS system and handling cash transactions.

  • Food Handler, Food Manager, or similar food safety certification, or willingness to obtain required certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, reach, twist, crouch, and perform repetitive hand and wrist movements throughout a shift.

  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and perform general café cleaning, stocking, and operational tasks.

  • Ability to safely work with espresso machines, grinders, hot surfaces, steam, cleaning products, and other food service equipment while effectively communicating with guests and team members in a fast-paced environment.

  • Adhere to company dress code and appearance standards.

Shift Lead

Position Summary

The Shift Lead serves as the acting manager on duty during assigned shifts and helps ensure that every guest experience reflects Fourgrounds' standards for hospitality, quality, cleanliness, and teamwork.

Shift Leads are working leaders who actively support café operations while providing direction, coaching, and accountability for the team. They lead by example, maintain a strong guest focus, solve problems in real time, and help create a welcoming environment for both guests and employees.

This position is ideal for individuals who have demonstrated strong performance in hospitality environments and are ready to take on additional responsibility for leadership, communication, training, and daily operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform all Barista responsibilities at a high level.

  • Serve as manager on duty during assigned shifts.

  • Lead daily operations by setting expectations, delegating tasks, and maintaining service standards.

  • Coach, train, and support team members during shifts.

  • Assist with onboarding and training new employees.

  • Ensure beverages and food items are prepared according to company recipes and quality standards.

  • Address guest concerns professionally and resolve issues when appropriate.
